Translating from English to Dutch started for me during my Anthropology studies in Utrecht, the Netherlands (1989- ‘95), when I started summarizing English academic texts in Dutch. I continued translating relevant professional reading for my co-workers while working for the Zeist municipality (2000-’05). Since moving abroad (2005) my command of the English language has improved to near native level. Getting certified by Cambridge University (CELTA) and working in English language settings in the educational field have helped along the way.
While my Dutch writing skills had been sharpened at university and in subsequent positions, it was in Cambodia that I started developing and writing a wide range of educational material for English language universities (2005- ‘14).
Translation came back around 2009, when I helped a Dutch NGO in Cambodia with translating documents into English. This was followed by a series of projects in different fields. Since 2014 I work as a full-time translator/editor, and these days I get the vast majority of my freelance projects from a select number of translation agencies based in Europe and Russia. In the present days of Machine Translation, I do my share of Post-Editing (PEMT), while I also work exclusively as an English proof-reader/editor (UK or US) for a number of clients.

I am a freelance translator working from my home office. Having gained experience in language teaching and working as a project manager in a translation agency means that managing deadlines comes natural to me, as is having an eye for detail without losing sight of the bigger picture. Born in the Netherlands but residing in the UK, I have excellent knowledge of both Dutch and British culture. Above all though, I enjoy working with languages and building a bridge between people, which basically is what it's all about.
Since 2009, I’ve been working as a dedicated self-employed translator offering translation and proofreading services from German and English in my native language Dutch. I consider my translations to be much more than swapping words in one language for words in another. It’s about conveying meaning. It’s about style and making the translated text read naturally. It’s about in-depth knowledge of the subject matter and about cultural awareness too.
After a considerable amount of years in business, I feel most comfortable when I am challenged by volumes, speed and (even extreme) deadlines. I am looking forward to help you tackle projects of any size, so let’s find a flexible, efficient and professional solution to your translation needs!
