I've been in translations/linguistics since 1997, millions of words, vast experience, a great lot of fields, I've worked for Google, Airbnb, governments (local and states), just name it. I'm fond of languages. I can speak English (of course), French, Russian, some German, Norwegian, Chinese and even Ukrainian. I've studied Icelandic and am familiar with Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and Faroese. Localization/CAT tools: starting from routine tasks such as bilingual files prep and post-processing and ending with deployment of custom-tailored translation memory servers using SVN or GIT technologies. Briefly, I love everything related to languages.
I am native speaker of both Chinese and English, and have years of experience doing English-to-Chinese translation and localisation for websites, video games, technical documents, non-fiction and fiction. My translations are both accurate and engaging, and I can handle a variety of writing styles with ease.
I grew up bilingual in Mandarin Chinese and English, and was educated in the US, Taiwan and UK. I have worked as a business executive in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan; my work brought me into contact with Chinese to English translation, and I became a FT Chinese to English translator in 2012. I have taken the HSK (Chinese Language Proficiency Exam administered by Hanban) Level 5, and have experience translating business, legal and technical documents into English.
I have about 30 years in contact with these languages, which spans multiple domains too; in other words, I am familiar with more than one way of describing the same thing from having lived in many countries. Simplified to Traditional, pinyin to bopomofo.
I suppose more appropriate to mention is that I am still very interested and read widely everyday.
My native language is English, and I grew up in a Chinese school, which gives me a very good understanding of the two languages.
My first translation job was to translate contents delivered by English speakers on stage to the Mandarin listeners below. I was given the opportunity to do that at the age of 18. I worked for the same company for about 2 years whenever there's an event that required me.
Then, I moved on to translating Mandarin documents to English. Currently, I'm on a freelance basis, translating drama subtitles Mandarin - English and vice versa.
Freelancer since 2012; have always helped bridge the language gap, and now enjoying the benefits of getting extra cash on the side! Grew up learning three languages - English (native), Malay and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese).
I have many years of experience in translation between English and Chinese be it simplified or traditional.
My translation work involves translating Chinese and English books, financial annual reports, business articles, exhibition posters, legal documents, user manuals, IT demo, company profiles, game analytics, etc to name a few.
My previous translation experience resulted in me having a very fast turnaround time and a reasonably accurate and fair translation.
I'm looking forward to forging a long-term working relationship with you!
